Josélia Neves holds a degree in Modern Languages and Literatures, an MA in English Studies and a PhD in Translation Studies, with a dissertation on Subtitling for the Deaf and the Hard of Hearing. She has taught at the Instituto Politécnico de Leiria and at the Universidade de Coimbra, in Portugal. She has carried out a number of action research projects within the field of sensory accessibility for television, cinema, DVD, eLearning/Web environments and cultural venues (eg. museums, theatre, dance, opera). At present she is working on a post doctoral research project, at the Imperial College of London, which addresses inclusive communication in museums.
Josélia Neves é licenciada em Línguas e Literaturas modernas (português-inglês) pela Universidade do Porto; tem um mestrado em Estudos Ingleses pela Universidade de Aveiro; um doutoramento em Estudos de Tradução, com uma tese sobre Tradução Audiovisual: Legendagem para Surdos, pela Universidade de Surrey Roehampton, em Londres; e um pós-doutoramento sobre Comunicação Inclusiva em Contexto Museológico, realizado no Imperial College London e na Universidade de Aveiro.
É Professora Coordenadora no Instituto Politécnico de Leiria tendo também, ao longo dos últimos anos, lecionado como professora convidada na Universidade de Coimbra, no âmbito dos Cursos de Mestrado e de Doutoramento em Estudos de Tradução e em vários cursos de Mestrado e de Doutoramento em Universidades estrangeiras.
Desde 2000 tem vindo a desenvolver projetos na área da comunicação acessível com diferentes parceiros nos domínios da comunicação social, produção fílmica, artes performativas, turismo, museologia e na educação. Em todos os projetos desenvolvidos assume as soluções para públicos com necessidades especiais numa perspetiva inclusiva, eliminando barreiras e promovendo soluções “para todos”.

Professora Auxiliar do Departamento de Estudos Anglísticos da FLUL, onde lecciona desde 1990.

Publicações mais recentes: investigam a tradução de formas de tratamento, variação linguística e formas de relato na componente dialogal da narrativa literária; a estrutura enunciativa da narrativa literária traduzida; bem como a relevância que a tradução assume na construção do perfil do leitor português contemporâneo.

Ana Cravo was involved in translator education for eleven years at Escola Superior de Educação de Castelo Branco, where she developed a project focused on Audio Description. She has a degree in Languages and Literatures (English and German) by the University of Lisbon and a Masters of Education in Supervision by the University of Nottingham. She is presently working on an MPhil on Revision and Quality Control in Interlingual Subtitling at Heriot-Watt University, in Edinburgh.
Her present research interests are: Revision, Subtitling and Multimodality.
Ana Cravo esteve envolvida na formação de tradutores, durante onze anos, na Escola Superior de Educação de Castelo Branco, onde desenvolveu um projeto centrado na Áudio Descrição. Doutoranda em Estudos Anglo-Americanos, no ramo de Tradução Audiovisual, na mesma Faculdade. Investigadora do Centro de Estudos Anglísticos da UL desde 2007, no grupo de investigação de Estudos de Recepção e Estudos Descritivos de Tradução. A sua investigação está focada nos Estudos de Tradução, de modo geral, e, particularmente, na tradução de linguagem tabu em contexto audiovisual.

Cláudia Ferreira is a teacher at the Languages and Cultures Department, University of Aveiro, where she teaches essentially in the translation field (e.g. AVT course of the master’s degree in Specialized Translation, among others). She is also a researcher at the Centre for Languages and Cutures, at the same institution.
She has got a BA in Translation, in Belgium, where she used to live until 1994, and worked as a lecturer of French Language and Culture at the University of Valladolid, Spain, between 1994 and 1997.
She finished her master’s degree in Terminology and Translation, at the Faculty of Arts, University of Oporto, Portugal, in 2006, with a final work in the field of the subtitling of scientific documentaries. She is presently doing her PhD in Translation Studies, at the University of Aveiro. Her studies focus on the subtitling of scientific documentaries and the reception of audiovisual translation.
She has been part of the organizing committee of several events related to cinema, namely the AVANCA International Meeting of Cinema, Television, Video and Multimedia, since 1999, and the International Conference AVANCA | CINEMA, since 2010. She is one of the responsible for the publishing at Edições Cine-Clubre de Avanca. And she is a member of the Executive board of the APCOMTEC (Portuguese association for the technical communication).
Besides her collaboration with TELEciência – International Scientific Film Festival, which started in 2002, she has also been working in subtitling for the International Meeting of AVANCA since 2001.

Cláudia Ferreira é docente no Departamento de Línguas e Culturas da Universidade de Aveiro, onde leciona desde 1997, principalmente na área da Tradução, sendo responsável pela disciplina de Tradução Audiovisual, do Mestrado em Tradução Especializada. É investigadora do Centro de Línguas e Culturas da mesma instituição.
Licenciada em Tradução, na Bélgica, onde viveu até 1994, trabalhou como leitora de Francês na Universidade de Valladolid, entre 1994 e 1997.
Finalizou o mestrado em Tradução e Terminologia, em 2006, na Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do Porto, com uma dissertação final na área da legendagem de documentários científicos. Encontra-se atualmente em doutoramento em Tradução Audiovisual, na Universidade de Aveiro, na área da legendagem de documentários de divulgação científica e da receção da mensagem através da TAV.
É membro da Comissão Organizadora dos Encontros Internacionais de Cinema, Televisão, Vídeo e Multimédia – AVANCA, desde 1999, assim como da Conferência Internacional AVANCA | CINEMA, desde 2010, sendo também responsável editorial das Edições Cine-Clube de Avanca e membro da direção da Associação Portuguesa para a Comunicação Técnica.
Desde 2001, tem trabalhado em legendagem no âmbito dos Encontros Internacionais de AVANCA, para além do Festival TELEciência – Festival do Filme Científico, em 2002.

Cláudia Martins

Cláudia Martins has a Bachelor’s degree in Modern Languages and Literatures, branch of Portuguese and English, and master’s degree in Terminology and Translation, both at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto. Diploma of Advanced Studies in the International Doctorate in Translation and Intercultural Studies at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili, Spain. She is currently developing her doctorate thesis in museum audio description at the University of Aveiro, Portugal. She has been a teacher since 2001 at the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança, having taught English as a foreign language and for specific purposes, Linguistics, Terminology and Translation Studies. Apart from these areas, she has a keen interest on Contrastive Linguistics, Phraseology, Neology and neonomy, Text Linguistics, Diachronic Linguistics, Dialectology and minority languages, animal and plant taxonomies.
Cláudia Martins é licenciada em Línguas e Literaturas Modernas, variante de Português e Inglês, ramo educacional, e Mestre em Terminologia e Tradução, ambos pela Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do Porto. Actualmente a realizar tese de doutoramento em audiodescrição museológica na Universidade de Aveiro. Docente desde 2001 na Escola Superior de Educação do Instituto Politécnico de Bragança, abrangendo as áreas da língua inglesa (inglês como língua estrangeira e inglês para fins específicos), da Linguística, da Terminologia e dos Estudos de Tradução. Para além destas áreas, interessa-se particularmente pela linguística contrastiva, fraseologia, neologia e neonímia, linguística de texto, linguística diacrónica, dialetologia e línguas minoritárias, taxonomia na biologia.

Conceição Bravo is Assistant Professor in the Language Department at the University of the Algarve, Portugal, where she teaches EFL, EAP and Portuguese as a foreign language to undergraduates. Her main research interests are:
language teaching methodology, learner autonomy, intercultural competence and audiovisual translation as an aid to foreign-language learning and teaching. Her Ph.D in Translation and Intercultural Studies from Universitat Rovira I Virgili, Tarragona, Spain, focused on the usefulness of subtitles for foreign-language learners/teachers – Putting the Reader in the Picture: screen Translation and foreign-language learning.
She is Director of a Post-graduation program in Translation and teaches Translation Theory and translation workshops. She has been involved in several EU projects for language teaching/learning and is currently a member of ClipFlair.
Graça Bigotte Chorão

Graça Chorão is a lecturer at the Polytechnic Institute of Porto in Portugal. She holds a Master’s degree in Anglo-American Studies from Lisbon University and is currently a PhD student in Vigo, under the co-supervision of Joselia Neves and Susana Cruces.
She is a member of the I&D center for Communication,Multimedia and Languages at ISCAP . She has organized several international events such as the ‘Oficina de Tradução’ (Translation Workshop) and JOININ – an International Seminar on Interpreting.
In the last few years , she has taught Business English to Marketing graduates and Liaison Interpreting in the Master of Specialized Translation and Interpreting.

Maria José Alves Veiga is a member of a Research Centre at the Departamento de Línguas e Culturas (Universidade de Aveiro – University of Aveiro, Portugal).
Her PhD investigation (2006) was on Audiovisual Translation of Humour (O humor na tradução para legendagem: Inglês/Português).
She has published in the areas of Foreign Language Methodology (Reading Strategies and Intercomprehension), Portuguese and Anglo-American Literature and Audiovisual Translation. Her research interests are: Linguistics (especially Text Linguistics); Translation; Audiovisual Translation Studies and Humour Studies.
Paula Ramalho Almeida

Paula Ramalho Almeida teaches ESL, communication theory, and intercultural studies at the Porto Polytechnic, besides periodically translating and subtitling. She has a Master’s Degree in Anglo-American Studies and is currently working toward her PhD in Literature and Culture Studies at the University of Lisbon, doing research on the relations between poetry and film.
She is a member of the Center for Research and Development in Communication, Multimedia, and Language (ISCAP) and was co-founder and editor of the journal Polissema.
Her main research interests are film and communication studies, visual semiotics and audiovisual translation.
Paula Ramalho Almeida ensina Inglês, Teoria da Comunicação e Estudos Interculturais no Instituto Superior de Contabilidade e Administração do Porto/Instituto Politécnico do Porto. Traduz e legenda de forma intermitente.
É Mestre em Estudos Anglo-Americanos. No âmbito do Doutoramento em Estudos de Literatura e Cultura na Universidade de Lisboa, investiga as relações entre poesia e cinema.
No ISCAP, é membro do Centro de I & D em Comunicação, Multimédia e Linguagem e co-fundou e editou a revista “Polissema”.
Interessa-se sobretudo por estudos de comunicação e de cinema, semiótica visual e tradução audiovisual.

Rita Menezes is a technical translator (since 2001) and translator/subtitler (since 2002). In the field of translation and subtitling, she started her career with projects on several Portuguese television channels (Interlinguistic subtitling and subtitling for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing); currently, she works on translation and subtitling for DVD. She has a degree in Translation and Interpretation by the Escola Superior de Tecnologia e Gestão do Instituto Politécnico de Leiria and she has post graduate studies in Translation by the Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas da Universidade Nova de Lisboa. She is now writing her PhD dissertation in Translation Studies by the Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Coimbra. Her main research interests are: Cinema, Psychology and Pedagogy, Children and Young Audiences, Mother Language.

Rita Menezes é tradutora técnica (desde 2001) e tradutora e legendadora (desde 2002). Na área da tradução e legendagem iniciou o seu percurso profissional com projectos para diversos canais de televisão portugueses (legendagem aberta e legendagem para Surdos); presentemente trabalha em tradução e legendagem para DVD. Sara Ramos Pinto

After finishing her PhD in Translation Studies at the University of Lisbon (Portugal) in 2009, during which she attended the University of Turku (Finland) and UCL (UK) as a visiting fellow, she taught at the University of Manchester (2009-2011). She is presently a full-time researcher in the project TIME and a member of the Centre for Comparative Studies at the University of Lisbon where she collaborates with the TETRA (Theatre and Translation) project. Her studies focus on the translation of linguistic variation and the reception of audiovisual translation.
She was part of the organizing committee of several conferences, namely the EST Congress in 2004 and Theatre and Translation: Contact Stages in 2006. She has several articles published, the latest one in Target (21:2).
